Dear AL, We are sorry that things did not work out for your child at our school. As you stated, when she began with us she did not speak English. Our staff worked to learn common phrases in her native language and even posted signs around the room so that they could be referenced during the day as we worked to build a bridge between her native language and English. In your child's first days with us she physically harmed her teacher and myself. We were very patient with her, understanding that the new environment and the language barriers might be presenting some unique challenges and frustrations for her. Unfortunately, the behavior persisted and even began to include things that would present a harm to her own safety. We met with you to address these challenges and we continued to exercise patience as she learned a new language and adjusted to being in school. We believe in partnering with parents. Any time you asked us to do something differently with or for your child, we did so. We moved her to a darker quieter space during nap time, we continued to rock her to sleep on a daily basis despite her being quite old for this practice. We asked for your partnership in breaking her of this habit so that she would be better prepared to move up to the next class and we did not receive the help we requested. Your child's behaviors routinely required the prolonged attention of a teacher, creating an unsafe environment for the rest of the class. Additionally, these behaviors routinely prevented the teacher from providing instruction to the class and required your child to be separated from the class to maintain a positive learning environment. I believe over the course of your child's 10 month enrollment we requested an early pick up on two occasions due to the level of disruption and there was no hysteria involved. Our conversations did not include discussion about her attending part time. No ultimatum was given to you regarding ending enrollment. You made the decision to end our partnership and I agreed that it seemed like we were not the best fit for your family. You provided me with an ultimatum that I was to have no contact with your child on the day that you dictated would be her last day and because I am actively in all of our classrooms and could not guarantee this, I let you know that the day of our conversation would need to be her last day. Again, I am sorry that our school was not the best fit for your family. Should you have a desire to talk further we would be happy to set up an in person meeting. Erin, Owner

Ms. Hughes, First, we want to thank you for choosing us for your daughter. We are sorry that we did not meet your expectations. We also want to express our appreciation for you coming to us and personally sharing your concerns with us. We regret that we did not have the opportunity to make corrections to better suit your child's needs before you chose to withdraw her. As I explained during our meeting, diaper changes are routinely completed and logged in every classroom. I have personally reviewed your child's log to verify that changes were completed both as directed by DSS and according to your child's needs. The specific incident we discussed was due to the children being on the playground with a scheduled diaper change pending upon them returning inside. We encourage families to provide a water bottle for their children to promote frequent access to water. As an ABC quality center, we are only permitted to serve milk and water so we may not allow other liquid options to be brought to school. Children are offered milk and/or water at breakfast, lunch and after returning inside from outdoor play. Additionally, teachers will offer it if a child indicates in any way that they are thirsty. Group childcare requires that the teachers attend to many children all at once. At any given moment, one or more children may require additional assistance or attention.
